Firewood, ho!

Things are looking up.  We found out about a month ago that we had lost access to where we were cutting firewood (the land got sold outside of the family).  But now a family friend has agreed to let me cut on his 50 acres of land.  I don’t know the details yet as far as when I will be doing it, how much wood or what kind of wood.  But any is good and it sounded like supplying me access for our 5 cord per year won’t be a problem.  I’d like to get 10 cord done this year so we can finally be a full year ahead, but we’ll see.

Now I just need to make sure I get all 5 cord of next season’s wood cut, split and stacked by May 31st at the very latest to make sure it is safe to burn.  Luckily we split on the small side due to our stove anyway and this speeds the drying process of the wood.

I do also have a few trees on my property I need to clean up as well as some that are infringing on my parent’s leach field.  I’m thinking of clearing my trees and the leach field during the winter months, then focusing on finishing the rest of the wood supply via the 50 acres I just got access to.

Another year gone by

We’re into 2013 and things don’t seem all that different yet.  I’m hoping to change that at least in my life.  I plan on learning some new things this year as well as honing some previously learned skills both in my work and personal life.  All in all, similar goals to what I have most years – yet somehow it is refreshing “starting on a new foot”.  Wish me luck.

Senasys – Made in USA snap discs

I need a snap disc that would open at 95F and close at 85F for the rack at work (triggers a shutdown of all equipment in the rack at 95F).  Senasys turned out to have the perfect solution.  Their switches are made in the USA and the quality shows.  I even had a Senasys Customer Service person contact me to verify my order – which was good because I ordered the wrong mounting style!  I plan on ordering one for myself for my onboard air so it will shut down the air compressor on my truck if it gets too hot.  The sweet thing is it auto-resets when it gets to the low temp set point so you don’t have to manually do anything.

Thanks guys!

Green Toys

Thinking about getting your kid a new toy this Christmas?  Upset that “all toys are made in China now?”  Well, it’s no longer the case.  Check out Green Toys.  We bought our Son a dump truck from them.  It is made in California, USA of recycled plastic.  Not only that, it is recycleABLE, so if he breaks it, it can be melted down and made anew.  On top of that it is more rugged than almost any other current toy truck I’ve seen, including Tonka Trucks!

Green Toys has all sorts of toys like trucks, planes, submarines, block and more.  We bought ours locally at the Reny’s in Farmington but they can be purchased online as well through places like Amazon.com.
