Hometown Veterinary Care

As many of you know, our cat Ashes has had some pretty bad health problems in the last month.  Which is odd since in his 9 years of life he has always been extremely healthy.  This health problem was a urinary and bowel blockage.  He didn’t take well to the standard medications given and also had some complications (part of his bladder had to be removed).  Instead of a one week recovery most cats would have with a regular blockage, it has been about a month and he is finally almost back to normal.

Hometown Veterinary Care in Fairfield has been amazing.  While Ashes was in their care they called us daily with updates, and while he was here at home they called us to check in on him.  They listened to our concerns and worked with us to get our cat healthy as soon as possible.  They were kind and compassionate and showed that they care about not only our cat but us as well.  On top of that, they were less expensive than any other vet we have worked with in the past.  Their expertise is second to none in the area.  Dr. Matthew Townsend is who we worked with the most and he did a great job.  Our sincerest gratitude goes to them, thank you.

New shocks on the Ranger

I got the new front shocks installed on my truck yesterday.  It took me 3 hours and honestly about half of that was fighting with my driver’s side inner fender well.  Luckily I figured out that by using 15″ of extensions on my ratchet I wouldn’t need to remove the inner fender well.  Thus the passenger side went much more swiftly.  The truck rides a lot better now that the shocks are doing anything at all.  The old ones were just about completely blown, and rightfully so being OEM dampers with 161,000 miles on them.  As an FYI, I replaced the rear shocks at 124,000 miles with Monroe Sensa-Trac shocks and just did the front ones with the matching set of Monroe Sensa-Tracs.  It sure does drive nice now.

Allergies or cold/flu?

We’ve had a bug…or allergies…or a cold…or flu going around the house.  I feel like I’m starting to get better, but still feel tired, kinda achy and a little nauseous.  Lucky for me my wife handles this type of stuff well so even though she is going through it too, she is still taking care of the homestead adequately while I’m at work.  I love my wife 🙂

So much to do, so far behind

We only have 1.5 cords of wood split and stacked…we had originally been planning on 5 total this year.  I’m not sure we’ll get there.  We have 2-2.5 cords of wood to cut and split left, most of which is pretty well seasoned.  So that will get us around 4 cord total like last year…but last year we ran out of wood by mid March.  Hopefully I can scrounge some dead standing and/or a bunch of dry mill scraps.

Meanwhile, before I worry about gathering the final cord, I really need to process what we do have to make sure it will be ready to burn this fall.

Geeks.com is closed

Geeks.com is officially closed.  Apparently they are keeping their brick and mortar retail location in California open, but that is of little help to me here in Maine.

Sadly, I feel like it was inevitable.  The last 3 or 4 times I’ve had to place an electronics order I had to go to NewEgg.com because Geeks.com simple didn’t have what I needed.  It was never a price thing for me.  I’m into efficient computing so my last computer was built with an AMD e350 Zacate motherboard, NewEgg.com has them, Geeks didn’t.

Geeks.com will be missed.
