Glen L. Fitch

My grandfather, Glen L. Fitch, passed away last tuesday.  He was a good man.  He was always looking out for his family, which included stepsons and step grandchildren that he took in under his wing just as if they were blood relatives.  He was part of the New Sharon Fire Department for nearly 40 years.  His funeral was held on Sunday at the New Sharon Congregational Church, where he had attended every Sunday since I was a child.  The Fire Department handled the pall bearer duties and they used the 1969 Dodge Fire Truck to carry Grampa to the cemetery instead of a traditional hearse.  All of the lights were blacked out and a half mile of US Route #2 was shut down to allow the precession to pass without being impeded by normal traffic.

We’ll miss you Grampa.

Grampa

Strong, loving, a provider.
You were a great Father.

Funny, smiling, a wise man.
You were a wonderful Grandfather.

Through your descendants,
You live on.

We miss your silly sayings,
We miss your “Grampa Dance”,
We miss your hawaiian-shirt-Sundays,
And we miss your suspender-hung pants.

But mostly, we just miss you.

It’s going to be a long week

Last Friday we found out that my wife had a miscarriage.  Yesterday morning at 9:30am I found out that my grandfather, Glen Fitch, was killed in an accident outside his home in New Sharon.

It’s going to be a long week.

Forgot about Linux Wars!

I had to dig up my backup files this morning because I realized that I entirely forgot to migrate Linux Wars over to the new server space when I did the transition.  Linux Wars is a project I did while in college.  It is a ROM hack of the old Atari 2600 game, Space Invaders.  I modified the sprites to my liking, making the “spaceship” into Tux the Penguin, the Aliens into Linux Distribution logos, the buildings to hide behind into desktop computers and the gun turret into the windows logo.

It is inevitable that with the onslaught of open-sourced, and a few closed source (I’m looking at you Steve), operating systems, Windows will fail.  Microsoft may not fail entirely, but I think that Windows will.

Hot Rod Model T

I have this fascination with kit-cars, and my favorite one right now is the Model T. Specifically I like the kits from Total Performance.  I would do a ’27 T-bucket, open top, modern tires (175 wide in front, 245 rear) and use a Harley V-Rod engine  (125hp/86tq).  That would give the car plenty of pep being that it should weigh in at 1,200lbs or so.  Only 9.6 lbs per hp, better than a 2011 Taurus SHO, not quite as good as a 2011 Mustang GT.

Something like this would be nice:
